What’s Zeltiq?
Dear Charlie:
I was reading a magazine and saw a new product called “Zeltiq™” mentioned as a non-surgical way to slim down. What is Zeltiq? Can I find it in Los Angeles? Could it replace tummy tuck or liposuction surgery?
Thanks,
Angela
Dear Angela,
CoolSculpting™ by Zeltiq is a new non-surgical body contouring procedure. It essentially “freezes” fat cells, breaking them apart and allowing them to be removed through the body’s natural cleansing process. No incisions or anesthesia are required and you can get back to your usual routine immediately after the procedure.
The Zeltiq device is well-established in Europe and a number of U.S. surgeons are offering these treatments. Marina Plastic Surgery Associates was one of the first practices in the nation to offer the procedure…so our Dr. Grant Stevens has a lot of experience! I’ve seen what it can do – and it can do a lot, but it’s simply not the same as lipo or a tummy tuck in Los Angeles.
What’s the difference? Well, surgical procedures can do more – they can remove more fat and create more dramatic improvement. There’s a downside to that, though: in order to achieve dramatic improvement, they require more cost, discomfort, and downtime. These are things you’ll be seeing much less of with CoolSculpting – in fact, the procedure doesn’t require any downtime at all.
So, ask yourself two questions:
- Do I have a lot of excess skin that needs to be removed? If the answer is “yes,” you should go with a tummy tuck instead of CoolSculpting or liposuction.
- How much improvement do I need? If it’s a lot, consider a tummy tuck or liposuction instead of CoolSculpting.
I’d suggest CoolSculpting if you have small, localized pockets of stubborn fat – as long as you’re at or near your target weight, live a healthy lifestyle, and don’t have too much excess skin.
No matter what you choose, I’m sure you’ll look beautiful!
Hugs,
Charlie
