Facelifts from Facial Plastic Surgeons Only?

I’m thinking about getting a facelift. One of my friends had one recently and told me that I absolutely “must” choose a facial plastic surgeon in Los Angeles to perform my facelift surgery. But other people have said that they’d totally trust the plastic surgeon who performed their breast aug or tummy tuck to work on their face – and they wouldn’t imagine going anywhere else.
Is choosing a facial plastic surgeon for my facial procedure really a “must”?

Dear Tina,
You ask a really fantastic question. I think you’d hear a lot of different opinions about this, so all I can do is share mine. Here’s my “golden rule” for choosing a surgeon: choose someone you can trust.
How do you find out if you can trust your surgeon to perform your facial plastic surgery in Los Angeles? Carefully review credentials (look for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery), get a feel for the surgeon’s bedside manner and openness of communication, take a look at before and after photographs of former patients who have had the procedure you are considering, and ask the surgeon how much experience they have with your specific procedure.
The truth is, just because someone is a facial plastic surgeon, it doesn’t mean they can achieve beautiful, natural-looking results. And just because someone also performs breast enhancement and body contouring procedures, it doesn’t mean they can’t also be highly skilled with facial procedures.
In short, the answer is “No, you don’t have to choose a facial plastic surgeon for your Los Angeles face lift.” Hope this helps!
