Are Face Lifts Becoming Extinct?

Dear Charlie,

I’ve been researching a lot about facial rejuvenation and I’ve noticed that there are a ton of laser treatments, fillers and such that produce some really beautiful results—and without surgery! Does this mean that face lifts are on their way out?

Sincerely,

Francesca

Dear Francesca,

It’s true that there are so many options for treating fine lines and wrinkles on the market these days and while it may seem like these non-invasive treatments will soon leave surgeries like face lift in the dust, there are some very important differences between these procedures that we simply can’t ignore.

First, face lifts treat sagging skin, especially around the lower half of the face and neck, and usually treat the more severe cases. Laser skin tightening and fillers simply don’t have the oomph to deal with that much sagging skin or with such deep-set wrinkles. Certainly, non-invasive treatments can really freshen up your looks and even take years off of your face, but they are no substitute for a tried-and-true Los Angeles face lift.

Though the surgical techniques have been refined, face lifts have been around for decades and continue to be a popular choice for rejuvenation because they just work (and work well). But if you’re not sure about surgery, discuss it with your surgeon. There may be just the right non-invasive treatment for your needs!

Take care,

Charlie
