Finding Your “Perfect” Nose with Digital Imaging

One way some surgeons are trying to encourage this communication is with digital imaging. Here’s the basic idea. Fine physical details can be hard to describe with words, especially degrees of correction – for example, reducing the nasal tip “slightly.” Everyone is going to have a different idea of what “slightly” means. The purpose of digital imaging during rhinoplasty consultations is to use pictures to clarify what cannot be accurately described with words. A “before” photo is taken of the patient and then a computer program is used to adjust that image to predict surgical outcomes. The hope is that the images can be used to make sure patients and surgeons are “on the same page.”
As with any procedure, there are no guarantees for rhinoplasty results. After all, everyone’s body reacts a little differently to surgery. It’s important to recognize this if you’re using digital imaging to plan for your rhinoplasty. Essentially, what you should keep in mind is that the digital images are a just a start, a conversation-starter. How your nose will look ultimately depends on a lot of other things – so don’t get too wrapped up in those digital pics!
