When considering any plastic surgery procedure, let alone facial plastic surgery, it’s just so important that you choose a qualified physician. For those of you looking for a facial plastic surgeon in Los Angeles, I talked with one of the surgeons at Marina Plastic Surgery to find out what really matters. Dr. Grant Stevens told me that examining a doctor’s qualifications is one of the most important things you can do. Look at the doctor’s educational achievements, residency and fellowship opportunities, and continuing involvement in the field of facial aesthetics. This information is commonly available on a doctor’s Web site, and if it isn’t, the surgeon certainly should be able to share this information during the consultation process.

Almost equally important according to Dr. Stevens is a careful review of a surgeon’s before and after photo results. If you like the outcomes of other patients, you’re more likely to have a good result for yourself. Facial plastic surgery often involves changes of just a few millimeters, so you need to feel confident that your doctor will be able to achieve your cosmetic vision. Look at before and after photos online and ask to see a few more when you come into the office.

Lastly, look for a good communicator. Dr. Stevens told me that he might spend an hour or more in a consultation, talking over details and sharing thoughts for the patient to consider. Make sure your facial plastic surgeon is listening to your needs and goals. After all, you want to feel confident every time you look in the mirror!
