Waiting for Breast Implants?
Dear Charlie,
I’m not happy with the size of my breasts, but I’m worried about having breast augmentation before having children. I don’t have any children now, and I don’t plan on having any for at least another 5 to 7 years. Should I wait to have breast augmentation?
Sincerely,
Bridget
Bridget,
Waiting to have breast augmentation is a decision best discussed with your plastic surgeon. But even before you sign up for a consultation, it’s a good idea for you to consider your physical and mental readiness, financial situation, and personal circumstances, regardless of whether or not you plan on having kids in the near future. It seems like you’ve already thought about how your breast augmentation will be affected by pregnancy and breast feeding, which is good. Most women who decide to have breast augmentation before having children have similar concerns, so don’t feel like you’re alone!
The first thing to consider is whether or not you’re physically, financially, and psychologically ready to have breast augmentation. Carefully consider your reasons for having surgery your goals. This step is important for any woman considering breast augmentation, but for women who plan on having more children, it’s also important to note that your breasts will change during and after your pregnancy, which means your results may change as your natural breast volume fluctuates. If you are concerned about being able to breast feed, you should know that this procedure typically does not affect a woman’s ability to nurse her baby.
Many women choose to have plastic surgery after pregnancy to ensure that their results aren’t affected by the hormonal and physical changes that occur. This is particularly true for women who are candidates for breast reduction in Los Angeles. On the other hand, many women choose to have breast augmentation before pregnancy because they can see it benefitting them for a long time before having kids. If you feel you would benefit now, I would recommend that you talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon about it. He or she can help you weigh the pluses and minuses of having breast augmentation before having children.
Hope that helps,
Charlie
