Reduction, Lift & Implant, Oh My!

When you’re looking for breast surgery information on the Web, you see so much about individual procedures…but what about if you want more than just one procedure? I get questions all the time from women who want to know whether they need a breast lift or breast augmentation, or whether their lift needs to be combined with breast reduction in California.
In truth, it all comes down to what you want your breasts to look like after surgery and how your surgeon is recommending you get there. While combining breast reduction and breast lift is very common, and many women choose breast augmentation with a lift, I’ve even seen cases where it was necessary to reduce the breast tissue, lift the breasts, and place breast implants to achieve the right size and shape!
So when you’re doing research about breast surgery, definitely take the time to learn about the procedures that are available, but I think it’s a good suggestion to focus a little more on what you want your breasts to look like. Your plastic surgeon is a professional, and hopefully he/she is skilled enough to know what procedures to recommend for your goals.
One other point about these combined breast surgery procedures…be sure to talk with your doctor about scarring. Incisions (and scarring) on the breast are inevitable, but of course you want to keep these to a minimum and be sure you understand post-surgical wound and scar care so that the incisions will be as unnoticeable as possible.
