Silicone gel breast implants have been available in the US for just over 4 years now. The latest generation of silicone implants looks and feels the most natural, which is why more women are choosing silicone for their breast augmentation or to replace their older saline implants.
While saline has a proven track record of being safe and providing beautiful results, many of our Los Angeles breast augmentation patients just find that silicone gel implants look and feel better. I’ll include myself in that group as well! I decided to replace my saline breast implants with the newest generation silicone gel implants and I am beyond happy with the results.
Marina Plastic Surgery Associates is also participating in a clinical trial of what could be the next generation of silicone implants. These cohesive silicone gel implants, also called gummy bear breast implants, contain a silicone gel that is more tightly cross-linked, so that the implant completely retains its shape even if punctured or torn. Based on some initial observations of the clinical trial, many surgeons expect this new implant type to become widely available in the coming years.
