Bulk-Up or Slim-Down – There’s a Surgery for You
Tweet
Hi Charlie,
I thought that, as men, we were supposed to be big and muscular. So what’s with all the procedures to slim us down? Which is it – slim or buff?

Dear Chuck,
The answer is simple – it’s whatever you feel is right for YOUR body. But I guess that’s a message you hear from me a lot: do what’s right for you, not to fit in with other peoples’ standards. I may seem to harp on it, but it’s one of the most important messages I can get across.
But, back to your question: these days, a slim look is in demand for both men and women…in fact, many men are using cosmetic surgery to achieve a slimmer figure. Statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgery found that liposuction was the 3rd most popular cosmetic surgery procedure for men in 2009. And, in addition to liposuction, there are many other procedures that can help slim that figure including tummy tuck, breast reduction, and other body contouring procedures.
But what about Arnold Schwarzenegger, Fabio and David Beckham – all rippling abs and thundering biceps? Well, those are “in” too. For some men, countless trips to the gym to “bulk-up” may increase their muscle mass but don’t give them the well-defined shape they want. The good news is that these guys can undergo surgery and have silicone implants to increase their pectoral size, their calf size, or enhance other body areas.
Whichever way you want to go, you should discuss your options with a board-certified Los Angeles plastic surgeon. When it comes down to it, it’s your personal choice.
Take care,
Charlie
